Student Townhouses
Colgate University
This 78,000 square-foot townhouse complex offers state-of-the-art housing at Colgate University. The project supports Colgate's living and learning philosphy, wich strives to foster mature citizenship through the responsibility of independent group living.

It comprises nine two-story townhouse buildings, each made up of two 8-bedroom units, and two gatehouse buildings each containing four smaller student units and a staff apartment. The buildings are arranged along the long, shallow site in groups to form quadrangles and courts. Each gatehouse provides an archway entrance to an internal mews.

All of the buildings feature large living and dining spaces, kitchens with dishwashers and double regfrigerators, laundry facilities, study areas, and covered porches. The design is informed by the scale and character of the nineteenth centry residential architecture of the village of Hamilton, as well as the material pallete of the Colgate campus.
