Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca - LEED Silver Certified
August 3, 2009 -
Healthcare facilities provide critical care to a community all day, every day, and therefore are significant consumers of resources. LEED certification is an extraordinary achievement for a hospital because substantial reduction of energy and water consumption, a tenet of the LEED program, must be implemented so that patient care and critical hospital functions are not in anyway affected.
This project represents a model of natural resource stewardship. A healthy interior environment was realized through the selection of finishes and materials with bio-based and recycled content, and a high performance building envelope was designed for maximum energy conservation. The natural synergy between a healthy building environment and a patient's experience has been achieved at the Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca.
