HOLT presenting at SCUP-46

A. Quay Thompson, AIA, LEED AP will be co-presenting, "Passing the Baton: From Sustainable Design to Sustainable Occupancy"  with Michelle Jones, Energy Manager, Office of Facilities, Ithaca College for the SCUP-46, "Integrated Solutions: How & Now," the annual, international conference and Idea Marketplace of the Society for College and University Planning.

The intent of the presentation is to promote better use of green buildings after occupancy.  Methods, both successful and unsuccessful, of metering building systems, communicating the measurements, and synthesizing solutions will be shared through a case study of the Peggy Ryan Williams Center at Ithaca College.The Peggy Ryan Williams Center on the Ithaca College campus is a LEED Platinum certified building.

Mr. Thompson and Ms. Jones will present the data gathered during the first 2 years of occupancy and share how the occupants behavior, system operations, and energy management efforts contributed to or challenged the established green building initiatives and expectations.  Experiences regarding occupant habits that were counter to the projects sustainable goals and discussion about the strategies that were used to overcome them will be included in the discussion.  Additionally, presentation of several simple design strategies at the scale of the user that can be employed to improve building performance and occupant satisfaction will be shared.

The conference will be held July 23-27, 2011 in National Harbor, Maryland.
