LEED Gold Certified - The Classroom Addition and Pedestrian Concourse

October 5, 2010 -

The Classroom Addition and Pedestrian Concourse on the Ithaca College Campus received LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council! The new addition extends an existing pedestrian concourse and creates two 32-seat classrooms that feature a wall of north facing windows that are canted inward, and have an exterior glass rain screen. To achieve LEED Gold certification this project successfully incorporated a highly efficient building envelope, high efficiency windows, building shading devices, occupancy sensors and daylighting controls to reduce energy consumption, as well as geothermal heat pumps to provide for the heating and cooling needs.

The building is constructed of board-formed concrete, with rooftop terraces covered with precast pavers and areas of vegetation. The new exterior stair is granite, with glass and stainless steel railings. The project is LEED Gold certified.
