LEED Platinum Certified - Peggy Ryan Williams Center

December 23, 2010 -

The Peggy Ryan Williams Center was designed using sustainable practices for site selection, reduced energy and resource consumption, and enhanced indoor environmental quality.

The sustainable design objectives were achieved through the use of:

  • a ground source heat pump system consisting of thirty-six 500-foot-deep bore holes that takes advantage of the Earth's relatively consistent temperature provides heating and cooling for the building

  • sensors that regulate lighting and mechanical ventilation levels based on building occupancy and available natural light

  • 6,500 square feet of green roofs

  • rainwater collection that results in satisfying nearly 90% of the buildings water consumption

As a result of the sustainable design methods listed above, as well as others, this building consumes 35% less energy than a building that does not utilize green design and technology.
