A central utility core extends the full length of the building, from the lowest floor to the rooftop fan gallery, with instructional labs on one side and research labs on the other. This configuration affords almost unlimited flexibility for lab layouts and changing utility needs. Outboard of the class laboratory block is a three-story atrium circulation zone, with classrooms on the lowest floor. The corridor serving the research laboratories is double-loaded, with faculty offices on the outside wall. Specialized facilities include electron microscopy, NMR spectroscopy, greenhouses, and vivarium.
The exterior material palette combines brick, limestone, and standing seam metal roofing to integrate with the existing campus architecture.
