This project was the first phase of a series of projects that would culminate in the creation of a new Child Care Center and School of Education, and the eventual renovation and improvements to Cornish Hall. The addition features a curtain wall of glass with dramatic light fixtures within that create a glow on wintery upstate New York grey days and every night.
The HOLT team utilized 3D computer modeling techniques to convey proposed solutions which enabled swift consensus about the design from the committee of the College's faculty and administrative staff. Sun study modeling illustrated the solar gain anticipated from the large expanse of curtain wall of glass, so that the mechanical systems could be appropriately positioned and sized.
Since the project was located at the heart of campus and along a busy pedestrian route, it was critical to minimize the impact of construction activities. Multiple phasing concepts were reviewed, and an appropriate plan that minimized the impact of construction on the building occupants and the campus at large was implemented successfully.
