Canton-Potsdam Hospital

Potsdam, NY

Approximately 150,000 gross square feet

Planning

In 2000 the Canton-Potsdam Hospital retained HOLT to provide a Master Facilities Plan to guide long range growth and respond to the evolving healthcare delivery system.

Strengths and weaknesses of the existing hospital dating from 1931 were analyzed, alternate delivery models were reviewed, future priorities were established, and a phased approach to meeting those needs was developed. Specific site limitations and opportunities for future growth were diagrammed and scored.

The Canton-Potsdam Hospital Board formally adopted the Master Facilities Plan and instructed HOLT to proceed with implementation phase for the highest priority programs. Identified was a first project that would improve functionality and patient flow, but also project a new image to the community to be served. Two building additions and numerous renovations would address a new main entrance with vehicular drop-off, modernized and expanded surgical facilities including the establishment of a dedicated ambulatory surgery center, a new maternity unit, expanded education and administrative space, and improvements to numerous support service areas.
