Student Life

The College wanted to create a clear gateway to campus for visitors arriving to the campus for the first time.

Due to both the culture of student life in the Student Commons building and its prominent location on campus, a renovation to the exiting Commons building was planned to transform its look and operations to become the campus "Front Door."

Throughout the collaborative project process and several different conceptual options, the College selected a "Welcome Center" model that would cater to a diverse population of students, cultures, and ideas, while also promoting the single collective identity that is Corning Community College.

The scope of the project includes a full renovation of the Entry Lobby and Kelly Lounge, as well as improvements on the exterior of the building to more clearly define the Commons as the "Main Entrance" to campus.

In addition to creating a clear and welcoming destination, the renovation also created unique spaces within the large facility to foster individual and collective identities, and connect these internal spaces, as well as making vital external connections.
