Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and built in 1833, the Federalist-style Aurora Inn underwent a comprehensive renovation and addition project to remove incompatible structures that had been added to the building over time, integrate modern amenities, and restore the rich historic character of the Inn and its environs.
An addition to the rear of the Inn was created to house critical support functions that allowed the installation of contemporary systems without destroying the historic building fabric. The new structure complements the existing historic architecture, creates a dialogue with the historic fabric of the Village, and harkens back to the character of buildings that once stood in its place.
This project has demonstrated the positive impact that revitalizing historic buildings can have on a community. Residents talk about how the new Inn is bringing people and pride back to the tiny town of Aurora.
