Setnor Academic Building
SUNY Upstate Medical University | Syracuse, NY
The design of this 48,000sf, 5-story building – added against the face of SUNY Upstate’s Weiskotten Hall, gained inspiration from its proximity to existing academic space, as well as the challenge of preserving Weiskotten’s existing windowed facade.
The new Setnor Hall adds academic and administrative spaces, including a state-of-the-art clinical skills center, flexible classroom space, offices, and an alumni association suite.
A 100-foot skylight crowns Setnor’s 4-story atrium, brings natural light deep into embedded spaces, creates an energetic public space, and minimizes the impact on the adjacent Weiskotten Hall. The glass atrium acts as a transitional space uniting the architectural expressions of the existing Weiskotten and the new Setnor Hall.
