Salem Family Health

Hudson Headwaters Health Network completed a new outpatient primary care and laboratory facility in Salem, New York. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), the organization designed the building to serve residents from all backgrounds while reflecting the character of the surrounding rural community. The facility offers a welcoming and comfortable environment for both patients and staff, with natural light thoughtfully incorporated throughout the interior to support wellness.

More than a traditional healthcare facility, the center was envisioned as a hub for healthy living and education. It includes a teaching kitchen and community garden, which were designed to encourage patients and staff to make healthier food choices and engage in preventive health practices.

The clinical layout was carefully planned to enhance efficiency and improve the patient experience. Smaller, focused waiting areas, separate check-in and check-out stations, and an on-stage/off-stage model were implemented to streamline operations, reduce wait times, and support patient privacy—delivering a more effective and compassionate care environment.
